EDMI Limited (“EDMI”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaki Electric Co., Ltd. (“the Company”), announced that the cumulative number of its smart meters operating in the Oceania region and connected to its Storm Cloud Intelligence Platform (see Figure 1) has exceeded five million units.(*1) This corresponds to approximately 70% of the smart meters installed in New Zealand and five eastern states of Australia (*2), showing EDMI’s strong position in the Oceania market.
As demand for smart meters is expected to continue steadily in both New Zealand and Australia, EDMI intends to leverage its high market share to pursue further business growth by capturing the upcoming market expansion.

Ⅰ. Smart Meter Market in Oceania

  • In New Zealand, the full-scale introduction of smart meters began in 2008, and the installation rate in residences has reached nearly 100%.
  • In Australia, smart meters are positioned as an important infrastructure supporting next-generation power grids that accommodate renewable energy and distributed power sources. Accordingly, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) (*3) has decided to strongly promote the introduction of smart meters in major regions by 2030.
(As of November 2024, the installation rate of smart meters in the five eastern states of Australia (*2) is approximately 43%.)
  • As a result, ongoing replacement demand for smart meters is expected to arise in New Zealand, while in Australia, expanded deployment is expected to drive new demand.
  • In addition, unlike in Japan, the Oceania market makes it possible to provide comprehensive “solutions” to electric utilities and electricity metering service providers—solutions that not only include smart meters but also enable measurement, monitoring, and control of electricity usage. EDMI is working to expand its solution business.

Ⅱ. Smart Meter Market in Oceania

  • EDMI is a company that was founded in Australia. Even after relocating its headquarters to Singapore, it continues to maintain development bases in both Australia and New Zealand. Its strong technical expertise, combined with a deep understanding of the market and a history of developing products together with customers to meet their specific needs, has contributed to its high market share in the region.
  • In the Oceania market, wider adoption of renewable energy and distributed power sources has created a growing need for more flexible control of the power supply grid.
  • To meet these needs, EDMI has developed the “NEOS Solution,” a solution for measuring, monitoring, and managing electricity usage, built around the next-generation smart meter “NEOS,” and began taking orders in July 2025.
  • “NEOS Solution” is characterized by the advanced functionality that not only measures electricity usage but also supports the collection and processing of large volumes of data, enabling monitoring and control.
  • Leveraging its strong customer base and next-generation smart meter solution, EDMI aims to contribute to solving energy challenges in the Oceania region and achieve further growth.

Ⅲ. Future Outlook for the Company’s Overseas Business

  • The Company’s overseas business accounts for approximately 41% of consolidated net sales and approximately 26% of operating profit (based on the full-year forecast for FY2025 (*4)).
  • Currently, under the three-year Mid-term Management Plan, the Company is working to improve profitability by expanding its solutions business, which integrates smart meters and related systems.
  • Looking toward the final year of the Mid-term Management Plan (FY2026), the Company aims to improve profitability in Oceania, where it holds a high market share, through expanded sales of the “NEOS Solution.”
  • For FY2026, overseas net sales are expected to reach 36.0 billion yen (down 4.0 billion yen from FY2025 (*4), mainly due to a decline in sales outside the Oceania region), with operating profit of 3.3 billion yen (up 1.8 billion yen from FY2025 (*4)). Overseas operating profit in FY2026 is expected to account for approximately 37% of consolidated operating profit.
